Typically reaching heights of 60-80 ft. these trees are recognized by distinctive star shaped leaves and spiky dark brown fruits. Thrives in medium, well-drained soils in full sun; does not tolerate shade well. Leaves are dark green and glossy, fragrant when crushed, turning varying shades of yellow to bright red in fall. Spring yellow-green flowers appear in small clusters that develop into spiked fruits.
Valued for lumber, fuel, and pulpwood, with gum resin resembling turpentine. Seeds are consumed by various bird species. Some trees can live up to 100 years. 1-0 bareroot.
