Our native honeysuckle, a non-vining species, is a compact bush that can thrive in just about any conditions, from full sun to part shade, and dry soils to the occasional flood.
The pale green foliage provides a soft backdrop for the almost frilly trumpet-shaped flowers. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will flock to the bush honeysuckle, and larger thickets provide resting places for migratory birds. The flowers of diervilla lonicera are yellow until they have been pollinated then they will turn red.
