Prairie Dropseed
sporobolus heterolepsis
An extremely low maintenance bunchgrass that is well adapted to a wide variety of growing conditions and soil types, including clay. Growing up to 3ft, the long wispy grass blades are graceful and in constant motion with even the slightest breeze. A burst of showy flowering seed heads, in tints of pink and brown, appear in late summer and hold beautifully through the winter. The blooms have a unique fragrance with hints of coriander. In fall the foliage color turns to hues of gold. Space plants 1-2 ft. apart in a row to make an eye catching natural border or plant in a landscape setting with other native grasses and wildflowers to add a touch of elegance. Seed-eating songbirds seek out this grass for food. An outstanding grass with four seasons of ornamental interest.
Available in quart size only.
