Pristine apple
Pristine (Malus domestica ‘Co-op 32’) is a standout early apple developed by the PRI breeding program (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illinois). It ripens in mid-July to early August—about a week after Lodi—and produces medium to large fruit with smooth, lemon-yellow skin and a delicate orange blush. The flesh is pale yellow, crisp, and juicy, with a balanced sweet-tart flavor that shines in pies, sauces, and fresh slices.
This variety is prized for its strong resistance to apple scab, cedar apple rust, and powdery mildew, making it an excellent choice for organic and low-spray growers. It performs well in Zones 4–8 and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. Trees are vigorous and productive, though they may overcrop—regular thinning helps maintain fruit size and annual yields.
Pristine apples store for up to six weeks under refrigeration, offering good shelf life for an early-season variety. The tree requires a pollination partner; compatible varieties include William’s Pride, Goldrush, and Liberty.
Whether you’re planting for flavor, resilience, or season extension, Pristine is a golden apple that delivers beauty and performance with minimal fuss.
