A release from the USDA-ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville, WV is named after the long-time pear breeder, Richard Bell. The fruit has ranked the highest in favor intensity, favor balance and juiciness among other pears in its season during years of extensive evaluation. The tree is vigorous and exhibits excellent resistance to fire blight.
