Adapted to well-drained, dry sandy, acidic soil. Many wildlife species eat the seeds and branches provide nesting habitat. Average height 66-115 ft (20-35 m), fast growing and long lived. Often found in forests associated with jack pine, white pine, or oaks. Intolerant of shade.
