Ashmeads Kernel Apple *On Sale*
Ashmead’s Kernel is a small to medium heirloom apple known for its intensely sweet‑sharp, complex flavor and exceptional cider quality. The tree has an upright‑spreading habit, moderate disease resistance, and blooms late enough to avoid most frosts. Fruit should be thinned for consistent annual crops. As a triploid, it cannot serve as a pollenizer and requires two diploid pollenizers for full pollination.
The apples are russeted honey‑green with a warm orange blush, and the dense, crisp flesh delivers a bright, nutty, honeyed zing. High in both sugar and acid, the fruit is prized fresh and for cider. Harvested in October, it stores beautifully—reaching peak eating quality around Christmas, when notes of pear, spice, and orange blossom develop. A longtime favorite among apple enthusiasts.
