Hoary Vervain 2.5" pot
Hoary Vervain (Verbena stricta) is a drought‑tolerant native perennial rising 2–4 feet tall with slender, upright spikes of blue‑purple flowers that bloom from early summer into fall. Its stems and coarse, toothed leaves are covered in fine white hairs, giving the plant a soft, silvery cast that stands out in dry prairies and sandy soils. The flowers open gradually from the base upward, offering an extended nectar source for butterflies, hummingbirds, and long‑tongued native bees, while also serving as a host plant for the common buckeye butterfly. Deep‑rooted and resilient, Hoary Vervain thrives in full sun and well‑drained, even rocky or disturbed soils, making it an excellent choice for restoration plantings, meadows, and erosion‑prone sites where it may lightly self‑seed to form naturalized colonies.
