Morus rubra

Typically reaches heights of 30-60 ft thrives in nearly any non-arid soil in full sun but can tolerate shade. Prune during late fall or winter if necessary. It readily propagates from seeds or small cuttings. The bark exhibits scaly ridges, ranging in color from grayish-brown in mature trees to orangish-brown in younger specimens. Leaves turn yellow in autumn. In spring, greenish flowers appear on catkins. Edible female flowers mature into fruits resembling blackberries, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) long, sweet, and varying in color from reddish to dark purple. They are consumed fresh or used in preserves, jams, jellies, and wines. Berries ripen gradually, allowing for harvesting over several weeks in early summer.
