We are here to help and recognize farmers who reduce erosion and runoff from private land into public waters.
MAEAP recognition can be earned in one or more of four areas: Farmstead; Cropping; Livestock; and Forest, Wetlands, & Habitat. Farmers who earn MAEAP recognition will receive a sign to place on their farm.
MAEAP is open to all Michigan farmers. You can start MAEAP at any time. Farmers who start or receive recognition by certain dates will be at an advantage for cost share, grants, and other assistance programs.

Farmstead System
The Farmstead category looks at activities performed on the entire farm with a focus on protecting surface and groundwater. Michigan farms of all sizes and types can apply under this category.
Cropping System
The Cropping category focuses on field-based activities such as water use, soil conservation, and nutrient management. This category applies to all crops grown in Michigan. These include field crops, vegetables, fruit orchards, greenhouse crops, and ornamental trees
Livestock System
The Livestock category focuses on animal production activities. These include manure management practices, as well as practices that protect water and prevent erosion. This category applies to all Michigan livestock farms, regardless of the animals raised or their size.
Forest, Wetland, & Habitat System
The Forest, Wetlands & Habitat category focuses on practices that promote sustainable forestry, wetlands, and non-forest habitat. These include forest health; protecting air, water, and soil; and restoring habitat.

Cost Share
MAEAP also has some cost share options available for farms working towards verification. Some of the common practices cost shared include: water sampling, soil samples, fuel evaporation pads, polywire, spill kits, drain covers, and compost thermometers.

Upcoming Phase 1 Events
Pasture Walk
There are plans to coordinate a pasture walk event in Clare County in 2024 in conjunction with the Clare Conservation District and MSU Beef & Grazing Educator Kable Thurlow. Check back for more information.

Soil Health Day
Brandi will be helping to coordinate and plan a soil health event for Osceola-Lake Conservation District with collaboration from MSU and NRCS. With being neighbors to Clare county we will welcome everyone who wants to learn more about working to improve soil health, productivity, and add resilience to their farm. Soil Health kit giveaway and a catered meal is provided, so RSVP is required.
